New River Drys
Explore The River In A Totally "New" Way!

When you think of The New River, raging whitewater and deep pools come to mind, but there is a stretch of the New unlike anything you've ever seen. Known as "The Drys" it is a unique section where the ancient river bed is exposed for most of the year, think of it as a permanent low tide. Created by the Hawks Nest Dam, the water is diverted through the Hawks Nest tunnel leaving a large section of the river essentially dry. It is an otherworldly landscape with huge boulders and interesting grooves carved in the rock by millions of years of erosion. The best part is you can explore this area on foot and see the river in an entirely "New" way!
