The Heart of the Highlands Trails System will connect the non-motorized trail systems of five land management agencies in Tucker County, West Virginia...The Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge, Little Canaan Wildlife Management Area, Canaan Valley State Park, Blackwater Falls State Park, and The Monongahela National Forest, into a comprehensive, landscape oriented, environmentally sustainable, multi-use trail system that is accessible to the public. Ultimately, the Heart of the Highlands will provide access to and from significant regional and national trail systems. However, none of this will happen without the sacrifice of volunteers who literally put their back into the job of constructing and improving existing trails for the enjoyment of the public. Meet the volunteers, listen to their stories, and understand just what it takes to "break" and maintain such a vast system of trails in this rugged but beautiful West Virginia landscape.
