Traveling Vest Virginia
Old Oil Rig

A Ritchie County Man Honors His Past

EYEWITNESS ONLINE WEBCAST VIDEO

Johnnie Boston's family has a rich history of oil and gas work in Ritchie County, West Virginia, and honoring their legacy became a top priority for him in early 2002. Wanting to educate others, and keep his family's work alive, Boston disassembled a turn of the century oil rig from his home place, and re-assembled it on a flat bed tractor trailer. Not only is the rig fully functional, but it's completely portable as well.

Johnnie takes his living history museum on wheels to festivals, parades and even schools to show visitors what the oil industry used to look and sound like in the early 1900's in West Virginia. The engine is over 100 years old, and runs like a dream
