![]() Hanging Rocks Observatory Climb The Mountain And Watch The Show!
Located on a remote ridge on top of Peters Mountain in Monroe County, sits The Hanging Rocks Observatory, a beautiful and ideal location where bird lovers of all ages gather each fall to track the southern migration of birds of prey. Originally built as a fire tower in 1956 by the state of West Virginia, the tower now serves as a gathering place for volunteers to count everything from hawks, eagles, falcons, and whatever else flies by. The information is gathered and sent to the Hawk Migration Association of North America that keeps track of migration numbers from all over the United States. Any and everyone is welcome at the "hawk tower", nature enthusiasts should not miss this opportunity to hike to a beautiful spot and connect with others of like mind.
