LEATHER CRAFTER

A disabled veteran creates artwork with leather in Cabell county, West Virginia.

EYEWITNESS ONLINE WEBCAST VIDEO

Darryl Hodgkinson volunteered for military service during the Vietnam War. He was wounded, and was permanently disabled from the military. He turned his attention to engines and became a master transmission technician having graduated from all three major American automotive schools, Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler. Because of continued medical issues, he had to quit the transmission work, but continued his involvement in veteran affairs. Computers became his next challenge, which he mastered in two short years. Darryl can build and diagnose computer problems with relative ease.

After enjoying crafts at the veterans hospital in Huntington, he wanted more of a challenge. So Hodgkinson taught himself professional leather crafting. If it can be made with leather, Darryl can do it. Purses, wallets, planners, belts, holsters, knife sheaths, vests and several other items are all part of Darryl's array of products. Any profit he receives, Darryl donates to veteran organizations in an effort to help others like himself, certainly a rare breed in this day and age.
