In the 1950's, UFOs, monsters, and ghost stories were part of Americana, and Clarksburg native Gray Barker was right in the middle of it. He began exhaustive research and eventually began publishing his own UFO magazine "The Saucarian". In 1956, Barker wrote his book "They Knew Too Much About Flying Saucers", and launched what today is known as the UFO conspiracy theory. The ideas of government cover-up, Men In Black, and aliens among us, were born with Gray Barker and his research. Barker passed away in 1984, but his extensive collection of books, letters, interviews, photographs, and notes are available to the public courtesy of The Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library and its Special Collections section. Regardless of your beliefs, this collection is impressive, and is a true cultural experience for anyone. Head to Clarksburg and check out the Gray Barker Collection.
