Mary Bethune and John Ackison worked for many years as whitewater guides on the world famous Gauley River. Eventually, they both realized their shared interest in pottery and Gauley River Pottery was born. Creating everything from coffee mugs to ornate dinnerware, Mary and John have designed their signature pieces that represent the green of the Gauley River. "Gauley River Green" is their own unique and exclusive creation and continues to be their best selling design.

Their shop located in an old historic general store in Mount Lookout, WV is open to the public and they welcome visitors to stop in and watch the potery being made. See for yourself a truly original West Virginia product designed by folks who love the state.
