Every fall whitewater enthusiasts from around the world converge on West Virginia's Gauley River to experience some of the best whitewater rafting available in the Eastern United States.

The Gauley River was harnessed years ago by the Army Corp of Engineers. Once a year the river is allowed to flow free as the Corps lowers Summersville Lake to winter pool stage. If you raft the upper and lower Gauley, you will run more rapids than a 3 day Grand Canyon trip offers.
