He joined the show April 11, 1993 as a correspondent and weekend anchor. His charisma and expertise have made him the show's busiest interviewer, conversing with such Hollywood legends and present-day icons as Jim Carrey, Sylvester Stallone, Tom Hanks, Michelle Pfeiffer, Julia Roberts, Whitney Houston, Sean Connery, Richard Gere, Faye Dunaway, Elton John and Milton Berle. This past season, Goen had exclusive interviews with Kirk Douglas, Nancy Sinatra and Anna Nichole Smith. Upon graduating from San Diego State University in 1976, the Long Beach, CA native came to Hollywood to pursue a career as a game show host. This post led to his first full-time job in radio as a disc jockey/producer for KPRO in Riverside, CA, where he was quickly promoted to program director. He segued to television in 1981 as sports anchorman at KESQ-TV, Palm Springs' ABC affiliate, where he also served as ESPN's desert-area correspondent. After four-and-a-half years there, Goen decided to return to Hollywood, continuing his pursuit to host a game show. Opportunities soon followed, with Goen starring in syndication's "Perfect Match" and "Home Shopping Game," and CBS' "Blackout." He then hosted the daytime version of "Wheel of Fortune" from 19891992, along with CBS' prime-time "The Hollywood Game." From 1993 - 96, Goen was the master of ceremonies for the worldwide telecasts of the "Miss Universe," "Miss USA" and "Miss Teen USA" Pageants. His charitable involvement includes hosting his own golf tournament, "The Bob Goen/Red Robin Celebrity Golf Classic," benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Colorado.
