Huntington Time-lapse FAQ

Q. Why does the image sometime shake?
A. Wind! The camera is mounted at the top a tower at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia. While the "shake" usually isn't noticeable in a live picture, a time-lapse magnifies any movement of the camera.

Q. Why does the picture jump to other places?
A. The camera is used by the News Department in their on-air broadcasts. You will frequently see it on Eyewitness News this Morning showing traffic. In the afternoon and evening the meteorologists use the Huntington Towercam to keep an eye on clouds and approaching weather. Since the camera is on a remote control robotic mount, the view will change depending on who needs to use the camera at any given time.

Q. When is the movie updated?
A. A new video is available every night around 10:30pm after recording the day's events.

Q. What period of time is recorded?
A. The St. Mary's Huntington Time-lapse captures every day between 5:00am and 9:45pm ET.
