Christmas is right around the corner and once again, the perfect gift for outdoor lovers and transplanted West Virginians is the 2013 Wildlife Calendar. Full of beautiful artwork, this year's collection has Mason County's Rhea Knight's artwork on the cover.

"I was at a show recently and a woman looked at one of my paintings and said that's so peaceful, I would love to be there. It took me a few years and I finally entered the competition and I've had several paintings included in the last few years. It's a beautiful publication, so well done, and I'm thrilled to be a part of it." says Knight.

More than just a part of it, Rhea's golden finches are so beautiful, so lifelike on the cover, you think you're looking out your window at the beautiful birds. As good as her wildlife paintings are, Rhea also loves bringing landscapes to life.

"I paint nature exclusively. I started out as a landscape painter and I also paint wildlife. I'm inspired by the things that I see when I'm walking and hiking outdoors..When you're surrounded by God's creation, it gives you a sense of peace that I don't think there are too many things in life that do that, and that's what I want to bring to my work." says Knight.

You can check out her work, and the beautiful artwork of others inside the calendar. You'll also get key information about things going on in nature every month of the year, as well as other important facts and information provided by West Virginia Division of Natural Resources biologists and staff. And if you want to take a shot at being an artist, Rhea has some good advice.

"I think the most important thing for an artist is to find a subject you feel passionate about, something you love, something that inspires you." says Knight.

It worked for Rhea and her beautiful artwork will serve as an inspiration for many.
