Getting your hands..or hook...on a musky is tough, but years ago, when there weren't as many of the huge fish in area waters, catching one was even harder. The DNR got involved in raising, and stocking, musky, and soon after, the local chapter of Musky Inc joined forces. Jim Moore is President of the local chapter.

Jim Moore, Musky Inc. says, "I really wanted to get a relationship established and I wanted to not only improve fishing but the fisheries and that meant getting involved with the DNR. My main goal has been to bring our club into activities and participating with and working with the DNR."

So, the working relationship was formed, with the key word being working.

Jim Moore, Musky Inc. says, "We do that a lot of ways, we work with the rearing ponds, we actually go out and drain the ponds, tag the fish, stock the fish. Several years ago they did habitat work in lakes and we had work parties and helped with that. We've done things at the Palestine Hatchery here locally. Two years ago, we roofed a building for them."

By helping out with cash donations, Musky Inc. has also helped with projects like the musky implant study. Of course, anything which will raise awareness of these beautiful fish is a good thing, and this group of anglers have been doing that for a long time.

Jim Moore, Musky Inc. says, "Here in WV, we are chapter 09, the 9th chapter founded in Musky, Inc.. We formed in 1978 and was a small group of guys interested in musky fishing and had been musky fishing all their lives. The main goal was to better the fisheries primarily through stocking and catch and release."

Through the years the group's put a lot of effort into improving musky fishing throughout the state, and anglers all over have benefited from this good relationship between a bunch of regular guys and the DNR.
