"I've always enjoyed painting. I think that's something you love to start with, subject matter and different media and the finish of a painting is a great thrill, there's a lot of frustration in the middle. I enjoy every minute of it." says Barnes. You can bet there are a lot of minutes put into each of these paintings. Glen specializes in frontier life from around the area. This painting is one of his favorites and he's been working on it for years. It's not in the calendar, but there is this beautiful leaping buck on one of the pages. Another is just as beautiful. "The dog and grouse is a little different than most subjects I do. It comes from what little grouse hunting I've done and photographs of dogs in action. It's next to impossible to get a photograph of a flying grouse." says Barnes. Once he got a visual in mind, Barnes went to work. "This was the first sketch I made for this painting. It had a hunter, a dog and a grouse. I did some refinements and worked on the dog somewhat and then decided to leave the hunter out and had the dog and one grouse, eventually that turned into a dog and two grouse." says Barnes. And eventually, another beautiful piece of art for you to enjoy, compliments of the DNR and Gary Barnes.
