Donnie Blackshire knows West Virginia bass fishing and he says there's great fishing close to home. "There's a big opportunity to fish right here in the city limits, the Kanawha River is a great place to fish."

Blackshire has been fishing the rivers and lakes around here for a long time and he says one of the best places to cast a line is in downtown Charleston.

"A lot of people think you have to go up to Stonewall or Sutton to catch bass. The Kanawha River is full of bass, some big smallmouth come in, 3-4 lbs smallmouth, 4 pound largemouth, it's a great place to catch bass." says Blackshire.

Donnie does like to fish the lakes in our state, but sometimes, especially during the week, it's tough to make that drive and still make it to work. That's another reason he loves fishing the Kanawha River in downtown Charleston.

"You can come out after work and fish for a few hours, depending on your schedule you can come out in the morning and catch 4, 5 or 6 bass. It's very convenient and, of course, the price is good. You go to Stonewall, it's a great place to fish but you spend a lot of money to take a fishing trip to Stonewall." says Blackshire.

And since money and free time seem to be in short supply these days, cheaper, more convenient fishing options are optimal. Blackshire says there's something else to draw you to the river-variety.

"There's a lot of things to fish at, a lot to fish too, there are grass beds up and down the river, rock banks, boat docks, barge pilings, then there's your normal bank." says Blackshire.

Lots of fish, lots of habitat and not a lot of hassle...sounds like the perfect fishing trip!
