![]() Winter Hunting
"This time of year, a lot of guys will be putting up their guns and their bows because deer season is over, but actually, a whole new window is opening, especially for people who have dogs. They may want to grouse hunt, you can rabbit hunt, waterfowl hunt, those are things people want to be hunting this type of year." And don't forget to look up in the trees when you're out in the woods, squirrel hunting is in full swing. "You can still squirrel hunt now, you can go out and keep moving and squirrel hunt. I could take a gun out with me right now and I'll be scouting for next year's deer season, especially when you take kids out in the snow, you can teach them so much, tracking, trails, that type of thing." says McClung. Riley is having a blast in the snowy woods, but if you don't have a dog, Dave says there are still other types of hunting you can enjoy in the winter. "I can even hear a crow in the background right now, that's kind of a unique sport. You can get out there and call, you can put decoys out, you are an active participant because you call the crows in. Coyote hunting has become very popular. It's another active sport where you're calling, but remember, they're also a very wary animal and they'll use their nose to circle downwind." A nice challenge for folks looking for some hunting opportunities this time of year.
