![]() WVBA Grant
Ed McMinn of the West Virginia Bow Hunters Association says his group wants to help. "The Bow Hunter's Association has always been behind the Archery in the Schools program. We saw a chance to help the schools because funding has been a problem, so we wanted to step up and help schools get started by raising some money." It doesn't cost a lot for schools to participate, but in these tough economic times, finding any additional funding is next to impossible. That's where Ed's group stepped in. "We have about $5000 available in matching grant funds. The schools can apply, it's a $500 matching grant per school and we provide preference to schools that are just getting started. Schools that are ongoing, that need to purchase new bows or targets, they can also apply." says McMinn. The West Virginia Bow Hunter's Association is working to make the grant a long-term commitment. The goal is to get the program up and running everywhere in the state. McMinn explains. "We would like to see Archery in the Schools in every middle and high school in the state. The DNR is doing a great job in teaching instructors, giving the education to the teachers, but we want to see the program expand and reach all of the youth in all the schools in West Virginia." Thanks to the Bow Hunter's Association, that dream is close to being a reality. For more information, you can log on to their website at www.westvirginiabowhunters.org
