![]() Youth Hunting
There's nothing like getting up before dawn, grabbing your kids and hitting the woods for a little hunting. There are opportunities to do that many months out of the year, and for kids 14 and under, the dnr makes things especially inviting. Jeff McCrady/DNR says: "We have youth hunting days, we have a youth squirrel hunting day, a youth duck hunting day, a youth deer hunting day and also a youth spring gobbler day. There are opportunities we've created that are different from all the other opportunities out there for people to be able to take their children out there and go hunting." Besides the whole hunting experience, taking your child in the woods with you gives you an opportunity to do something with your kid, right along side them. Jeff McCrady/DNR says: "It's something they can do together, something you can do, go hunting with your kid and encourage him to be the major participant and that's the way it should be whey you start off-give the kid the shotgun and let him do the shooting." Get them interested in hunting, and chances are you'll have a hunting partner for life. And who better to spend all that quality time with than your child...And one day, your grandchild. Jeff McCrady/DNR says: It instills in them this tradition and it's something they don't ever want to give up after that, that causes the tradition to carry on from generation to generation. more important than that, it's a time to bond with your children and it's just an outstanding time to spend time with them and get to know them better." Hunting season is right around the corner, so get your kid out there with you now to do a little scouting, remind them about hunting safety, and then just have some fun. Maybe my son quinn and i will see you out in the woods, or checking in some game. For west virginia wildlife, i'm patrick mcmurtry, eyewitness news.
