The 2007 division of natural resources wildlife calendar is out, and once again, it will be one of the more sought after christmas presents in the mountain state.

Jim Fregonara/DNR Biologist says:
"This is the West Virginia wildlife calendar and we've been putting it out for 22 years. You can purchase it at any convienance store, any food store, DNR wildlife district office. It's full of all kinds of hunting information, fishing information, regulations, but mainly people like our calendar because of the artwork."

These calendars are chock full of artwork with everything from bob white quail to white tail deer and you'll even find paintings of woodpeckers gracing the pages.

But like years past, the calendars are also full of interesting reads for everyone interested in the outdoors.

Jim Fregonara/DNR Biologist says:
"We also have some feature articles, we have articles that talk about woodcock hunting in West Virginia, re-establishing aquatic vegitation and our new program, master naturalist program we have here in West Virginia."

But as always, its the artwork that sells the calendars. Competition to be included in the calendar is fierce and jim says just because you didn't get picked this year doesn't mean your work won't be picked in the future.

Jim Fregonara/DNR Biologist says:
"There's a lot of competition and a lot of times artists will send in pictures of the same kind of animal. In the past, we've had lots of people sending in pictures of white tail deer and we have maybe 1 or 2 per calendar year and we'd like to ask them to send them in next year and maybe we'll use them next year."

And that's one thing you can count on, the wildlife calendar will be just as popular next year and the year after that. The calendars run 8 bucks a piece and the money goes to pay for your wildlife programs.
