Their hands may be softer, but their resolve as just as strong as anybody else out in the woods Monday. These women braved the cold for one reason...To bring home a deer.

Linda Bryson/Charleston says:
"We scouted out the area yesterday and she found a really good spot at the top of the hill and we crept up slowly listening as we went and it was just as she thought it would be yesterday. We got to the top, the woods got really quiet and there was a doe and her yearling with their head down feeding."

That was a first for Linda Bryson and the other women out in the DNR sponsored becoming an outdoors woman hunt. And like many of us looking down the barrel at a deer for the first time, the excitement got the better of her.

Linda Bryson/Charleston says:
"I missed the shot, I'm new and learned a lot of things. I had the gun across my shoulder and getting it off me, they were still standing there and gave me a good broadside shot and I missed but I learned a lot. It was a great experience, seh's a great teacher and I look forward to hunting again this afternoon."

Linda and the other woman had mentors with them on this hunt...Experienced female hunters who could give them some tips and teach them how to hunt deer.

Janet Clayton/DNR says:
"Sunday afternoon we get out and see what sign to look for and walk the area and maybe even see the deer, hopefully get the juices flowing for the next day and Monday morning we get up bright and early."

Cherry Barnett/Hurricane says:
"We started out around six this morning and headed up our ridge and climbed up to the top of the bowl and my mentor, Debbie, and I scouted it out yesterday and jumped four deer....didn't have luck this morning, not that we didn't try."

Sounds like my hunts this year, cherry. And with a little luck, maybe I'll see you in the woods again when both of us will have something to brag about.
