The National Hunting And Fishing Days at lake Stonewall Jackson Resort And State Park are right around the corner and that means lots of kids are in for lots of fun.

Especially the one's taking part in the outdoor youth challenge.

Mike Spangler/DNR Conservation Officer says:
"It's for youth ages 10-17 and it's an opportunity fo them to interact with DNR and Wildlife Federation people and to try a lot of aspects of outdoor sports."

Saturday, kids 10-13 will square off. Sunday is for teenagers 14 to 17 years old. The day long competition will be jam packed with fun.

Mike Spangler/DNR Conservation Officer says:
"We have open site small bore 22's, we have trap shooting with shoot guns, we havfe bows for them to shoot, we have casting competitions, we have competitions that focus on wildlife management, fisheries management, that kind of stuff."

Just the kind of stuff the kids will love. This is a different type of competition. Last year, the overall winner didn't actually win a single event but did do well in most all of them. And did i mention what the overall winner gets?

Mike Spangler/DNR Conservation Officer says:
"Everybody that participates is elegible to win prizes. People that win individual competitions get a trophy or plaque. The overall winner will receive a muzzle loader and a trophy and everybody that participates is a winner."

The 15 dollar sponsorship fee covers everything you'll use and need at the competition, including safety equipment and ammunition. Lunch is also covered, so bring your kids, your competitive spirit and desire to have a lot of fun. I'll see you there.
