Jerry Duffield/DNR Wildlife Manager says:
"There's nothing like this anywhere near this."

Wildlife Manager Jerry Duffield is talking about the wildlife management area at Wallback.

This relatively small lake has some real big possibilities.

Jerry Duffield/DNR Wildlife Manager says:
"The project here has about a 15 acre lake in conjunction with a shooting range and a walk trail and the parking areas, it's all within the wildlife area. We're only 34 miles from Charleston and only 1/2 mile from the interstate, in fact you can see the lake driving up the interstate."

One look and you're likely to see someone holding a stringer of big trout while others are waiting to get one on their line. And at Wallback, it's not all about fishing.

The brand new shooting range is open for use...Just something else here that will get folks out and keep them coming back.

"There's nowhere to fish other than the Elk River and it's a few miles away. There's just nothing like this where people can walk, the shooting range, it's several miles to the closest shooting range-there's several things that just aren't available to people in this area."

"People can hunt, now they can fish, they have a nice walk trail, it is plenty good enough for the physically challenged to go to this side to fish, they can shoot at the shooting range, they can bird watch, there are some ponds for people that just like nature, it has the frogs, the lizards and the ducks."

And the people. This little nugget is in Clay county but will be enjoyed by folks from all over this part of the state.
