For every deer harvested, a lot of money is spent in areas really needing the busines. "The amount of money they spend is important but more improtant is where they spend it. A lot of the money spent hunting in West Virginia is spent in the service insudety, food, gas and a lot of that takes place in remote, rural locations that might not see a lot of expenditure the rest of the year." Thanks to the nature of our state, lots of mountains and lots of deer, a lot of people buy licenses and spend a lot of time hunting. "Those 248,000 people spend a little better than 5 million days in the field hunting in West Virginia. That's obviously a very popular activity and they're spending a lot of money in the process." Deer hunting brings in people and bucks into our state's economy from outside West Virginia. Our relatively small state is big in out of state revenue directly related to deer hunting. "We sell each year somewhere in the neighborhod of 40,000 to 50,000 non-resident hunting licenses. That puts us in the raw sales somewhere between 5-6 in the nation in raw license sales to non-residents." LEARN MORE W. Va.
