![]() YOUTH HUNTS
Dave McClung, DNR Wildlife Management "Whenever my little boy shot his first deer with a bow at nine, far more exciting than any deer I've ever shot." Thousands of kids all across the state will get the woods to themselves during a series of DNR Youth Hunts coming up. However they won't be alone, they must be accompanied by a licensed hunter 21 or older. The adults are there only for advice and encouragement. Dave McClung, DNR Wildlife Management "They don't shoot -- it's for the kids. It's for the youth that is out there, he's there to give advice and lend a guiding hand and that's the best part about it." These kids will have a chance to hunt all different types of game. Everything from deer to turkey hunts will be offered. Dave McClung, DNR Wildlife Management "I've got a son who's 12. We've participated in the youth squirrel hunt, the youth duck hunt. It gives you an opportunity to get a little head start." A head start on something you and your child can enjoy for the rest of your lives. Dave McClung, DNR Wildlife Management "It's something that children can do with their parents when they're old. I coach baseball, but those things come to an end usually when kids get out of high school, those things come to an end. This is something you can do throughout your life together." A priceless gift that can last a lifetime. The first youth hunt is October 2nd when youngsters will be going after squirrels.
