Go ahead and fish with no license and without breaking the law.

W.Va. Wildlife from Eyewitness News

Fishing license, this weekend, who needs it. It's all about getting your line in the water and having a good time. That's right, Saturday and Sunday, June 12th and 13th is West Virginia's Free Fishing Weekend.

Bret Preston
DNR Fisheries Management
"It's an opportunity to take advantage to participate in fishing without buying a license. It might be folks that have never fished before or folks that are being reacquainted with fishing."

The special days encompass all waterways in West Virginia including trout fishing.

Bret Preston
"Everywhere in the state where folks fish you can fish without a license this year. There are a number of opportunities from the large rivers all the way down to farm ponds."

And the invitation is open to residents of all states.

Bret Preston
"Folks from Kentucky and Ohio close by can come over and fish. It's an opportunity to visit West Virginia."

This is a great chance for a weekend escape.
Bret Preston
"It's also just a time for folks to spend time with their families. The weather is nice and you can take advantage of fishing without a license."

The DNR hopes this will add to the nearly 300,000 anglers already in the Mountain State.

Bret Preston
"You can take fishing where ever you go. You can fish your entire life."

Now if you get hooked on fishing you can purchase your fishing license online at www.wvfish.com
