DNR Director "Today we're delivering archery equipment to the very first school in West Virginia at Braxton County Middle School. It's a pilot program with approximately 20 schools. Participating schools will receive a kit worth $2,500, which includes everything from bows and arrows to instruction manuals.
DNR Biologist "The bows we have here allow kids of different sizes to be able to use the equipment, no matter if you are the smallest student or the biggest."
Archery is a sport girls and boys of all ages can be involved without any limitations, which has teachers and students ready to shoot.
Teacher, Braxton County Middle School "From the time we found out about this, the kids have been coming up saying, 'When are we going to start this. When are we going to start this.' So they are really excited and I'm excited also." Director Hamrick's mission is to rapidly expand the program to schools across the state.
"There is a tremendous amount of interest and excitement in the program. When this program finishes, I feel confident, we're going to have a tremendous number of schools throughout the state a part of it." Besides the DNR and the Department of Education, private companies and associations are working hard to make this program a success.
