The Bayer CropScience plant in Institute has a new man in charge of safety.

Industrial Operations Vice President Chris Evans announced Monday that Steven Hedrick will become head of the Institute Industrial Park on March 1.

The West Virginia native is now head of operational safety at Bayer's facility in Baytown, Texas.

Also on March 1, Hank Teschendorf will be transferred from head of manufacturing at Institute to being in charge of operations.

Institute site leader Nick Crosby will move to a new role at the company's North American headquarters in Research Triangle Park, N.C.

The U.S. Chemical Safety Board has said safety lapses at the Institute plant 10 miles west of Charleston contributed to an explosion in 2008 that killed two workers.
