WEST VIRGINIA NEWS
from Eyewitness News Online T-shirt maker struggles to fight WVU on trademarks February 07, 2012 9:31 AM MORGANTOWN, W.Va.
The owner of a T-shirt company sued by West Virginia University says he can't afford a lawyer, so he's trying to raise $10,000 selling shirts online to hire one. WVU sued Miva-Man, operating as Fastees, in U.S. District Court last month for trademark violations. The Dominion Post says Kevin Ford doesn't want to stop using the words "West Virginia" on T-shirts but may have to if he can't afford a lawyer. Cases in federal court require professional representation. WVU spokesman John Bolt says the school is prepared to see the case through. Ford argues the state's name is used by hundreds of companies, without implying a reference to the university. He has until the end of February to formally respond to the lawsuit or risk summary judgment for WVU. Information from: The Dominion Post, http://www.dominionpost.com |
