Rick Lord A fatal helicopter crash in Washington, a fire truck gets sunk in Indiana, and music history in Tennessee on this USA Update

March 18, 2014
Reporter: Rick Lord

Washington... a TV news helicopter crashes into the street near the Space Needle in Seattle. Two people are dead and a third is in critical condition in the hospital. The helicopter was operated in partnership with two local news stations, KING and KOMO. It was taking off from a nearby plaza when it crashed into the street, destroying at least two cars. The two people who died were the pilot and a news photographer...

Indiana... a sinkhole in Indianapolis traps a fire truck en route to a house fire. Another truck had to be sent to the scene, and crews spent the day digging out Engine 29. The rear driver's side wheels sank right into the pavement. The sinkhole is about four feet by eight feet. No one was hurt...

Tennessee... one of the first ever Fender Stratocasters is for sale for $250,000. The 1954 guitar, with serial number 0100, was the first Stratocaster available to the general public. While this one didn't have a famous owner, other Stratocasters have fetched huge sums. One of Eric Clapton's sold for $959,500 in 2004, and recently the one Bob Dylan played at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival sold for a record $965,000. And with that, this song is over on this USA Update.
