Hawaii... the state's Department of Health director has died in a small plane crash. Loretta Fuddy was one of nine passengers on the plane when it went down just off the coast of Molokai. The eight others on board survived. Rescue swimmers were sent to the scene, bringing three passengers in the water to safety. Maui firemen helped rescue everyone else. No word yet on what caused the crash...

Texas... a car slams into two gas pumps at a Harris County gas station, sparking a small fire. Investigators believe the driver lost control after her jeep hit a van leaving the station. That caused a chain reaction crash with another van, and the jeep vaulted into the gas pumps. Three men pulled the woman to safety as flames erupted up to ten feet into the air. The woman is expected to be okay; no one else was hurt...

Florida... a landmark topples to the ground. The iconic Hallandale Beach water tower is now officially retired. The 62-year old tower carried 200,000 gallons of water and stood 140 feet tall. It's being removed to make room for an expansion of a nearby park. In recent years, the city placed high capacity water pipes underground, making the tower obsolete. And with that, the stories have gone dry on this USA Update.
