Tiger Woods: To Return To Play At Masters
PALM HARBOR, Fla.
When Tiger Woods last spoke to the world, he said he'd return to golf, but didn't know when. Now he, and the world, know the date will be April 8, for the Masters. In a statement yesterday, Woods announced he would end his four-month break from the game and resume his career at the tournament where he won his first major. Woods hasn't competed since November 15, when he won the Australian Masters. But 12 days later, he crashed his SUV into a tree near his home and that led to the world learning he's been unfaithful to his wife on numerous occasions. Since then, Woods has undergone nearly two months of therapy, a process he says is continuing. He says while he is "ready to start" his golf career again, he still has "a lot of work to do" on his personal life.

Tiger Woods: Reading Between The Lines
PALM HARBOR, Fla.
Why now, and why the Masters? Tiger Woods says he's returning to golf at Augusta National simply because he's ready and has a lot of respect for the tournament. But many observers see other reasons Woods made his decision. One has to do with the media, and the other, the fans. At Augusta National, media credentials for the tournament are limited. Then there's the fans. At Augusta, there's less of a little chance he'd get the kind of jeers and catcalls he might if played elsewhere. The Masters tournament has more control over its tickets than any other golf venue. And if fans violate tournament rules or get caught scalping their tickets, they risk losing the season badges that get them in.

Tiger Woods: Popularity Not A Fade, But A Draw
PALM HARBOR, Fla.
Tiger Woods has been the biggest draw at the Masters since he became the tournament's youngest champion in 1997, at age 21. But his return next month will make the tournament an even bigger spectacle than it's ever been. And that's fine with the people who run it. Billy Payne is head of the Masters, and says the Augusta National Golf Club not only backs Woods' decision to return, but also supports his commitment to rebuild his personal and professional life. And there are two TV networks pleased to see Woods choose the Masters for his return. The first two rounds are on ESPN and the weekend rounds will be on CBS. CBS Sports president Sean McManus said last week that a Woods return to the Masters would be "one of, if not the biggest media spectacle in recent memory", other than Barack Obama's inauguration as president.

Lil Wayne: Arizona Judge Issues Warrant For Jailed Rapper
YUMA, Ariz.
He has a pretty solid excuse for not showing. But that didn't stop an Arizona judge from issuing a bench warrant for Lil Wayne. The rapper was to show up for a hearing on drug and weapons charges. But he didn't, because he's serving a one-year jail sentence in New York City. An attorney for the rapper asked that the March 30 trial date be vacated, and asked that the court let Lil Wayne appear in Yuma once he serves his sentence. But prosecutors say they want him treated as a convicted felon, and his bond increased to $150,000. The rap star was arrested in January, 2008 at a border checkpoint 78 miles east of Yuma after authorities say they found cocaine, Ecstasy and a handgun on his tour bus. His New York jail sentence is for a gun possession conviction.

DMX: Rapper Jailed For Six Months
PHOENIX
Six months in jail, and a mental health evaluation. That's the sentence a judge in Phoenix has given DMX. The rapper admitted in court yesterday to a single violation of probation for failing a drug test last June. It's been kind of a revolving door for the 39-year-old rapper when it comes to the law. He was just released from jail in May after serving a 90-day sentence for felony convictions, including two drug counts, theft and cruelty to animals. And he has been arrested in Maricopa County alone five times. The court says DMX could be released from jail early if he gets himself into a drug rehab program.

Michael Jackson: Record Deal Not Considered A Big Gamble For Sony
LOS ANGELES
If a record label paid Michael Jackson $250 million dollars over seven years in the years before he died, people would think that was crazy. So why is Sony going to pony up that kind of cash now? While fans worldwide weren't eager to listen to Jackson's new music in the years before he died, there will probably be lots of interest in what the singer has tucked away in his vaults. Jackson has many unreleased recordings and songs people might want to hear. Among them are studio sessions from some of his best albums and songs he did recently with people like will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas. People familiar with the music Jackson left behind say there are about five dozen songs laying around. If only half that number are good enough to be put on the market, it would be enough for two or three albums. Or, the cuts can be added to albums Jackson has already put out.

Mary J. Blige: Mutual Admiration For Today's Stars
NEW YORK
She's the undisputed queen of hip-hop. But that doesn't mean Mary J. Blige doesn't listen to her musical "subjects." Though she's been in the game since the early 1990s, Blige says looks to younger artists to inspire and teach her. And she says, that's no big thing. It's simply what Mary J. calls "being a smart person." Blige says singers like Rihanna and Beyonce' have taught her about what's going on in music today, so she can keep her sound fresh.

American Idol: Everybody Must Do Stones
LOS ANGELES
Even when he isn't at the top of his game, Big Mike gets big love from the "American Idol" judges. Well, most of them, anyway. He led off last night's sing-off with "Miss You", since it was Rolling Stones night. Randy said he wasn't crazy about it but said it reminded him that Michael is such a great performer. Simon called it "corny" and "a tiny bit desperate", while both Kara and Ellen loved it, though they hinted he lacked a little something. The female front-runner also got lukewarm props. Crystal Bowersox did a somewhat low-key version of "You Can't Always Get What You Want." Randy said it wasn't her best performance and Simon said she might be thinking she has the competition already sewn up. Crystal said she didn't think that, but thanked Simon for suggesting she was ahead of the competition. Meanwhile Siobhan Magnus got high scores for her take on "Paint It Black" while Paige Miles' version of "Honky Tonk Woman" got praise, in part, because she took the stage after suffering with laryngitis. The results show is tonight.

Oprah Winfrey: Going To Philly For Trial
PHILADELPHIA
Oprah Winfrey will be spending a couple of weeks in Philadelphia later this month. But it's hardly a vacation. The talk show queen is will have to show up to defend herself in a defamation case. The trial is set to start March 29. It stems from the sex-abuse scandal at the school she set up for girls in South Africa. When the headmistress for the school was suspended in 2007 after the allegations came out, Winfrey said she had "lost confidence" in the woman and that she was "cleaning house from top to bottom." The former headmistress has sued Winfrey for defamation. Her lawyers say Winfrey has rearranged her TV production schedule so she could be in court. When she was sued by a group of cattlemen in Texas for comments she made about eating hamburger, Winfrey moved her show to Texas for the duration of the trial.

Estelle: A "Shear" Appearance
NEW YORK
A lot of high school students have been checking out Estelle's style. Now, it's her chance to turn the tables. She will be one of the guest judges on tonight's edition of "Shear Genius" on Bravo. She will give her opinion on the makeovers some new high school grads are getting as they make their way into the adult world. The new styles, inspired by the 1960s and 70s, will be shown off at an album release party for Estelle.

Carrie Ann Inaba: Gets Apology From Virgin ... The Airline
LOS ANGELES
Carrie Ann Inaba has gotten a letter of apology, and a refund, from Virgin America. The airline is trying to make it up to the "Dancing With the Stars" hottie and other passengers who were stranded for hours on a grounded plane. She and the others were on a plane headed from Los Angeles to New York on Saturday. Fierce winds forced the jet to land about 90 miles north of New York. The airline says the flight was kept on the ground for 4 hours before the passengers were bused to New York's JFK Airport. However, the passengers were allowed to get off the grounded plane while waiting for to get to their destination.
