Varying options to obtain tax forms

Tax filing season provides another reminder about the benefits of personal computers and Internet access. The way things used to be, a person had to go to the post office, a library or a local IRS office if a tax form was needed in a hurry.

It is still true that you can call the IRS, at 800-TAX-FORM, or mail a request for any of the federal forms or publications. And similar options remain available for access to state income tax forms.

But Web sites now provide the easiest option for access to state and federal tax forms, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All you do is find the form online, open it up and print it out.

The IRS site at irs.gov is a good place to begin. There are a number of third-party sites that also provide the forms, which should always be free of charge.
