Louisville looks to reverse road woes MORGANTOWN, W.Va. Louisville's defense can't seem to catch a break against West Virginia. Pat White left a lasting imprint on Cardinals with four standout games. Now that White is gone, Louisville must contend with another top-notch performer. Running back Noel Devine needs 46 yards when West Virginia (6-2, 2-1 Big East) meets Louisville (3-5, 0-3) on Saturday to reach 1,000 for the second straight season. South Florida limited Devine to a season-low 42 yards last week, but Louisville coach Steve Kragthorpe says it seems every time the junior touches the ball, something magical happens. Louisville is zero-and-four in road games this season. West Virginia is unbeaten at home and needs to win its remaining four games to overtake Number Four Cincinnati and Number 14 Pittsburgh for a BCS berth.
Reds minor leaguer suspended for banned substance NEW YORK A minor league pitcher in the Cincinnati Reds' organization has been suspended for 50 games for using and possessing a performance-enhancing substance. Jose Marmolejo played for the Reds' team in the Dominican Summer League. He was penalized Friday. The Reds suspended Marmolejo for 10 games late last season while his case was being reviewed. He will sit out 40 games at the start of the 2010 season.
Tomlin motivates with Denver's No. 1 message PITTSBURGH The more coach Mike Tomlin keeps talking about it, the more agitated his players get. Exactly the response Tomlin wants from his Pittsburgh Steelers. Tomlin keeps referring to the Broncos as having "the world's best defense," a reference to Denver's spot atop the NFL team yardage statistics. He mentioned it during the weekly team meeting. Before practice on Wednesday. Before practice on Thursday. And he'll likely keep saying it until game time Monday. By constantly reminding that the Broncos (6-1) are playing better statistically than the Steelers (5-2) are, Tomlin is trying to motivate both his offense and his defense. He wants his offense determined to prove it can move the ball, and his defense mad that it's no longer Number One. |
