Tempers start to flare in NLCS
October 12, 2008 9:43 PM

LOS ANGELES
Benches have already cleared once and things have gotten heated in game three of the National League Championship Series.

With two outs in the top of the third, Dodger pitcher Hiroki Kuroda threw a pitch about a foot over the head of Philadelphia's Shane Victorino, prompting him to step out of the box and start yelling at Kuroda.

When Victorino grounded out to first to end the inning he began yelling at Kuroda again, causing both benches to empty. Both sides continued the yelling but no physical contact resulted.

Kuroda's actions appeared to be a response to the actions of Phillies pitchers earlier in the game. Starter Jamie Moyer hit Dodgers catcher Russell Martin with a pitch in the first, and then Clay Condrey almost hit Martin again in the second.

The hard feelings go back to earlier in the series when the Dodgers Manny Ramirez saw some brush back pitches in game two.

Home plate umpire Mike Everitt has issued warnings to both teams.
