Winfield's upset over top ranked Hurricane is still fresh in the minds of the Generals, especially for senior Zach Gunter. "Its pretty amazing especially the two games going as long as they did. To win a ten inning game and then a nine inning game to beat out your arch rival feels pretty good."
Gunter has been one of the team's best leaders, espeically from his catcher's spot, where he mentors a deep pitching staff. "As a senior and as a catcher i try to put it on myself to be as vocal as possible helping out the underclassmen to do what they need to do."
After a slow start, Gunter's bat has been one of the hottest in triple a. All due to extra work in the batting cage. "Just stuck with it. Try to come down here and hit every sunday and the bat really started to come around."
Gunter carries a 4.0 GPA, bringing his competitive spirit into the classroom. "I tried to take some hard classes and i'm one of those guys that doesn't settle for a b. I got to get that a and its basically like i am on the baseball field. I don't like to settle for a one point win i like to play my best and do my best."
Winfield has never made it to the regional since joining triple a, and with Huntington approaching next week, Gunter's focus is one game at a time. "We got to put our best foot forward and we have to play as hard as we can to advance to the next game because it could be our last. We just got to come out and play the best we can.
