School: Buffalo Primary Sport: Softball Buffalo has become a softball powerhouse in recent years, due to the help of seniors like Casey Cunningham who uses her experience to lead the underclassmen. "I've really had to step up a lot. The younger girls really need help and i try to help them understand the game" Cunningham said. As the Bison's catcher. Cunningham is responsible for managing the teams young staff, whom she has a close relationship with. "We have a really close bond and we've worked together through fall, winter, and spring pitching and we just have a really close bond." 2012 has been Cunningham's best year at the plate, finding a way to end her high school career on a high note. "Its been really well, I feel like a good leader out there and I feel like I can kind of control the game for the team." Casey carries a 3.5 GPA, finding time to study during her busy schedule. "Its hard to keep up with my school work and play softball but its been a challenge and I've kept up with it." Cunningham has signed to play at Alderson Broaddus next season, a chance to further her playing days. "Its a great opportunity and I'm really excited to go there. Its a great atmosphere and I'm really excited to be on the softball team." Buffalo took home the single a title a year ago, something Cunningham hopes to make back to back in her final campaign. "Its very important. Its been a dream of mine since I was little. I'm hoping i can lead us to another state championship." |
