School: Riverside Primary Sport: Softball The 2012 season has been a postitive one for Kelsey Mathis and Riverside, and with a winning record, the sky is the limit for the Warriors. "We are having a great season. We are all staying together and staying positive and if we work together we will keep playing good enough." Mathis said. Mathis is one of four senior on the team, and with a small group coming back she is showing her leadership in more ways than one. "We don't have a varsity this year and we only have 16 girls so not everyone is getting to play but making sure that everyone understands that no matter what they are doing that they do play a role." Mathis picked the right time for her best year , as she is putting up the best statistics at the plate in her career. "This has defiently been my best year with batting and offense but i've improved a lot because i'm a lot more confident at the plate." Mathis carries a 4.58 GPA, putting her at 5th overall in her class, showing she is more than just a star on the field. "You have to spend a lot of time studying and its hard during softbal season. If you want it bad enough you will do it." Mathis will take her talents to Alderson Broaddus next season, but for now she has some unfinished business to take care of at Riverside. "We can have a losing record or we could only win one game but it all matters when you get to sectionals cause thats where it matters the most." |
