School: South Charleston Primary Sport: Basketball Gel Villanueva has experienced the highest of highs as a South Charleston Black Eagle, and after a regional win over Spring Valley, her team is heading back to the State Tournament. "Been there two other times and we excited to get there again but hopefully we make it all the way this time not just to the final championship. Just win it this time" Villanueva said. Villanueva has been a four year starter at South Charleston, and she has seen everything one can see in one career. "Sometimes its good and we have fun but other times its come on guys we have to get it together and we get mad at each other but we still love each other." The Black Eagles have had their best season in gel's tenure, and she knows this is the best chance they've had in awhile. "Its been harder than the other three years i've been here. We've ran more we do more fundemental things we just are overall better." Gel carries a 4.6 GPA, earning a full academic scholarship to Marshall University. "I make sure my grades are good. My mom doesn't like bs or cs and all of that. So, i strive to get the best grades i can get." South Charleston has come up short in their previous two trips to the state championship game, and Gel hopes they can push through to win it all in 2012. "Its very important to us because we have been there two other times and we have some upsets. We lost by 12 the first time, and lost by 6 last year. So, we just have to go out there and play to the best our ability." |
