School: Cabell Midland Primary Sport: Baseball His team is ranked number one in class triple a, and 2011 couldn't get any better for Christian McCourtney and Cabell Midland. "Everything seems to be going our way pretty much we are playing together as a team coming around and hopefully we can keep it up," he said. Mccourtney is one of nine seniors for the Knights, which is a tight knit group that started a long time ago. "Most of us have been together since little league so its mostly been fun," he said. McCourtney is one of the many versitile players for midland, stepping in where ever head coach Tracy Brumfield needs him. "When Lucas got hurt at the beginning of the year I stepped up and I've gotten some confidence and my hitting seems to be coming around so its been a pretty good year i just have to keep it up," he said. McCourtney carries a 3.8 GPA, showing his skills both on and off the field. "I study take AP classes and all that, so when I'm not playing baseball and studying, but I've been keeping my grades up," he said. The Knights haven't won a state title since 2003, and he hopes that all changes in 2011. "Couldn't even put it into words state tournament is the ultimate goal and we are working our hardest and we want it more than anything," he said. |
