The 2011 campaign did not get off the a great start for Ricky Cantrell and Winfield, but the Generals have pulled together a stretch of wins at the right time in the thick of the post-season.

"It didn't start picking up hill until the last 5 games of the season we got close to some really good teams we beat Logan at their place that was a good win and its starting to go up hill at the right time," said Cantrell.

The like the rest of his team, Cantrell started of rocky, but he was able to pull it all together, becoming one of the team leaders in points and rebound.

"I started off averaging 5 points which is not really good and I've started to pick it up with the team I've started playing better defense and getting more assists and I'm scoring a lot more than I used to so I'm happy about that."

In his four years as a general, Cantrell has accomplished a lot. Playing with a lot of good and players and a trip to the state tournament.

"There's been so many great things here I have my coach McCoy shirt on now he's one of my favorite people at Winfield. I've seen a lot of good players and had a lot of good victories in my four years at Winfield," he said.

Cantrell carries a 3.8 GPA, showing his skills both on and off the court.

"I'm concentration on my academics a lot I'm trying to get a scholarship academically and i strive to do my best in the classroom more than on the basketball court basketball is always second to me," said Cantrell.

Before Cantrell heads into the next phase of his life, his biggest goal is to lead his team back to Charleston

"We still have another game to play and i would love to win that and go to the state tournament in my senior year," said Cantrell.

After he graduates, Cantrell plans to attend WVU or Alderson-Broaddus to study physical therapy.
