Student: Kaitlyn Snyder
School: Sissonville High School
Primary Sport: Basketball

Last fall it was feared that Kaitlyn Snyder's senior season of basketball might not happen after suffering a knee injury in soccer. Fortunately, those fears were put to rest.

"It [the knee] feels fine," she said. "You know occasionally you'll have some tweaks or, it will pull sometimes. But the brace pretty much does a good job."

Before the start of her final season with the Sissonville program, Snyder announced her intentions to play at Fairmont State College.

"When I went on my official visit I knew that's where I wanted to go every day," she said. "I want my parents to be a part of it [her college career] and my family."

There was a never a doubt that she could reach the next level of basketball.

"She's been a super player all four years," said head coach Annette Olenchick. "It's just great to watch her each year progress. This year she's in that role...that leadership role."

Snyder carries a 4.0 grade point average in the classroom. Earlier this season she scored the 1,000th point of her career. Her main goal as a senior is to finally play in the state tournament.

"That's what you aim for every day in practice," she said. "Three hour practices every day, you don't go 50 percent you go 100. We do aim for the Civic Center (the site of the state tournament)."

She knows it would be a perfect end to her days as a Sissonville High athlete.

"I'm going to miss it, I've had a great experience," she said. "Coach O is a wonderful coach, the girls have been great. It's been a lot of memories for me."

And add Kaitlyn Snyder's name to the list of area girls' basketball starts in recent years to provide us with plenty of great memories.
