School: St. Albans High School Primary Sport: Basketball It is Megan Fitzgerald's goal that one day St. Albans will be an annual competitor in the state tournament. She feels that day is getting closer. "I believe me and Scrappy Gilmore, Brittany Crawford helped build this program along with Scott James, our coach, and all of our other teammates," said Fitzgerald. James is proud of a steady contributor like Fitzgerald. "She is one of the building blocks of the foundation of the success that we've seen over the last four years," said James. "Her as well as some of the other seniors have bought into the philosophy that the coaches wanted and they've worked extremely hard in the offseason - that is where our success has grown." While Fitzgerald helps build the program, she's built an impressive resume in the classroom carrying a 4.0 gpa. "She's a wonderful student," said James. "She's got her priorities right. If we have late practice she gets home (and) does her homework before she gets here. She doesn't put things off, doesn't procrastinate." Fitzgerald said, "It's not as hard as you'd think (mixing sports and school work). I think I keep it pretty well balanced." Earlier this month Fitzgerald and the Lady Dragons played at the Civic Center Coliseum in the Hoops Classic. Now this future psychology major at WVU would love nothing more than to close out her career there in March at the state tournament. "I want to be back here, we will be back here," she said. |
