School: South Charleston High School Primary Sport: Football Sometimes making a move is not easy. But for Ahmari Smith things couldn't be better in his new surroundings. He's a game away from being in the state championship, and more importantly Smith is excelling in the classroom. As a transfer from Hurricane, Smith is part of a South Charleston team that is undefeated and in the Class AAA semifinals. "It's nice to be here," said Smith. "We had a goal at the beginning of the season to go 10-0. We were successful at that and MSAC (Mountain State Athletic Conference) champions." Smith and his teammates play Morgantown Friday night at UC Stadium. SC is looking to go to 13-0 and on to Wheeling Island Stadium for the state title game. Smith is one of several valuable weapons on the SC team. "I like being a part of this team. We all force each other to work hard," said Smith. "One of us scores, we all want to score." Smith has taken his academics to a new level. "I'm looking at some good colleges right now," said Smith. "I understand if you want to go to college you've to have the grades." He's making the grade at SC and sets out to do his part as the Black Eagles try to be at the head of the class in AA on December 6th. |
