School: Winfield High School Primary Sport: Cross Country/Track & Field She's traveled quite a distance in both cross country and track and field the last four years. "Cross country isn't flat around a circle. All your running is like your hills around different kinds of elevations; it's completly different," said Winfield senior standout Megan Truelove. "Even your training, you're not running circles on the track your running distance runs, hills and everything." She's a two-time All-Stater in cross county in Class AA-A and last spring she was the Class AA state champion in the 3,200 meters. Moving up a class meant even more work in the offseason. "I've been running with the boys some. So, I'm trying to let everything out this year and don't leave anything behind," she said. It's the approach Truelove has taken with everything throughout her high school days. "Megan is an outstanding student athlete," said her cross country coach Doug Kirk. "I've had the priviledge of working with her the past couple of years and she's just a great leader and a great did on and off the field. (She) always gives 100 percent on the track and the cross country course and the classroom. Everything she does is top-notch." Being one of the state's top cross country and track and field athletes means no slowing down during her two running seasons. "It's pretty hard because you have practice right after school and for a couple of hours you go home and eat and then do your homework and then it's basically like time to go to sleep," she said. "So just struggling with all of that is pretty hard." But she's managed, and on the college level her plan is to combine athletics with academics. After all, running is Megan's true love. |
