The Road To Wheeling Super Six: Wayne
2009 West Virginia High School Football

The Wayne Pioneers return to Wheeling Island Stadium for the fourth time since 2000 on Friday night, December 4, to meet up with Bluefield in the Class AA state championship game. Wayne is the No. 1 seed and Bluefield will enter as the No. 6 seed. Wayne stayed perfect last weekend and earned the championship game berth with a dramatic 27-21 come-from-behind win over the Frankfort Falcons. Wayne trailed 21-0 at halftime.

The Pioneers won the crown in 2006 over Tolsia while falling in 2000 title game to Bridgeport and the 2004 game with Bluefield. The Beavers won that championship by a final of 69-24.

Bluefield will be making its 15th appearance in a championship game Friday night. The Beavers are 11-2 on the year and both losses came to out-of-state competition.
