The Road To Wheeling Round 3: South Charleston
2009 West Virginia High School Football

The South Charleston Black Eagles are on the verge of playing for a second straight Class AAA state championship. Standing in the way is a talented Bridgeport team. The No. 2-seeded Black Eagles, 11-1, and the No. 3-seeded Indians, 12-0, will meet on Saturday at 1:30 inside Charleston's mammoth UC Stadium.

SC held on to defeat No. 7 Martinsburg, 38-28, in last weekend's quarterfinal round. Bridgeport advanced to the semifinals with a convincing 31-0 win over George Washington.

Bridgeport last played for a AAA state title in 1979 on the Laidley Field turf in Charleston with a win over St. Albans. Bridgeport also won a AAA title in 1972. The program has won three AA crowns.

The Class AAA championship game is set for noon Saturday, December 5, at Wheeling Island Stadium.
