The Road To Wheeling Super Six: Brooke
2009 West Virginia High School Football

The Brooke Bruins are heading to the Class AAA state championship game for the first time since 1992. Brooke, the No. 1 seed, will put its perfect 13-0 record on the line Saturday, December 5, at noon inside Wheeling Island Stadium against No. 2 seed and defending state champion South Charleston. The Black Eagles enter at 12-1.

Brooke won state titles in 1985, 1987 and 1990. The Bruins lost the title games of 1980, 1986, 1989 and 1992.

First-year head coach Tom Bruney chose "Back To The Future" as the theme when he was hired as the head coach of the Bruins. Bruney, a Martins Ferry, Ohio native, said he always admired Brooke football while growing up and later working in the Upper Ohio Valley. Bruney has been a head coach in Arizona and Ohio and was an assistant at West Liberty State before taking the Brooke job.
