March 31, 2008 10:26 PM

SEATTLE
Adrian Beltre hit a go-ahead groundout in the sixth inning, Jose Lopez had a two-run double in the seventh and the Seattle Mariners beat the Texas Rangers 5-2.

Newly acquired Seattle starter Erik Bedard allowed three hits, including Michael Young's solo home run, in five innings and struck out five. He walked four, one short of his career high, and went to full counts on 10 of his first 18 batters.

Sean Green picked up the win by allowing two hits in 1 2-3 innings behind Bedard. J.J. Putz, who saved 40 games and was an All-Star last season, got his first with a scoreless ninth.

Rangers starter Kevin Millwood took the loss in his third consecutive opening-day start. That ties a Texas record shared by Nolan Ryan and Charlie Hough .
