Last Update May 06, 2008 4:25 PM Indians pitcher a Perfect Lee in '08 CLEVELAND Cliff Lee was trade bait last year. Now, the Cleveland Indians pitcher has one of the best season starts in baseball history. Statisticians have to look all the way back to 1909 to find anyone with an equally low on-base percentage. He has a 27-inning scoreless streak, the longest by a Cleveland pitcher in 26 years. It's quite the turnaround since 2007, when Lee was demoted to the minors and left off the post-season roster. During the off-season, Lee's agent said he expected Lee to be pitching for another club in '08. But a strong spring training record and a 5-and-0 start for the season has made him a key asset. The left-hander starts Wednesday as the Tribe opens a three-game series against the New York Yankees. As their offense struggles, Lee is a bright spot for a team on the mend. |
