The Friends of Coal Bowl

VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS OF THE
2006 FRIENDS OF COAL BOWL

West Virginia 42, Marshall 10

It was Governor Joe Manchin's dream to get Marshall and West Virginia back on the football field once again.

The first of a seven-year series was played at Morgantown on September 2, 2006 and served as the season opener for both schools. The day was overcast and had a late-October feel to it rather than early September.

West Virginia, coming off an impressive Sugar Bowl win over Georgia, dominated the Herd, 42-10.

Steve Slaton, who was coming off a Sugar Bowl rushing record of 204 yards, collected 203 yards on the afternoon and scored a pair of touchdowns for WVU.

Slaton was joined in the game by Marshall running back Ahmad Bradshaw. Both are now quality backs in the National Football League with the Houston Texans and New York Giants, respectively.

WVU scored on four of its first five possessions.

Marshall quarterback Bernard Morris threw for 128 yards and two scores.
