The last time Allan Hatcher made his way to Charleston for the West Virginia Boys State High School Basketball Tournament was 1983.

That's when he was the head coach of Williamson High School, which no longer exists.

His star player was Mark Cline, who just wrapped up his fourth season as an assistant coach for Marshall University.

Hatcher has been a lot of places and won a ton of games since leaving Mingo County following the '83 season in which his Wolfpack defeated Northfork for the Class AA state title and ended the Blue Demons run of eight straight championships.

Hatcher has coached at the Division I level of college, for several schools in Kentucky and also spent one season in Ohio. Along the way he guided three different schools to Kentucky's Sweet 16 a total of 11 times.

The veteran coach, who got his start at his alma mater of Logan High as an assistant under the legendary Willie Akers, has well over 700 career wins.

Now, he's coming back to Charleston with a school that never before has played in the West Virginia State Tournament. Chapmanville Regional, the No. 6 seed, will open the 2014 event by taking on defending state champ Bluefield, the No. 3 seed. Chapmanville Regional and old Chapmanville High have combined to exist for 85 years.

The program is making history in just the second season at the helm for Hatcher, who is the father of successful Logan head coach Mark Hatcher.

Meanwhile, another Allen, as in Poca's Allen Osborne, will bring the Dots to the Class AA field as a No. 2 seed. Osborne is in his 38th season as Poca's head coach.

Poca will open tournament play on Wednesday at 1 p.m. against No. 7 Fairmont Senior.

The other part of the Class AA bracket has No. 1 seed Robert C. Byrd meeting No. 8 seed East Fairmont at 5:30 and No. 4 Westside against No. 5 Bridgeport at 9 p.m.
